Walling Stone Production
Natural stone is a stone, such as sandstone, that is formed by nature and is not artificial or manmade.
Producing stone walling is a highly skilled area of expertise. Below are the steps involved in creating the high quality, natural and sustainable walling stone we offer at Whitehall Stone Sales Ltd.
Producing high quality natural stone walling is a highly skilled job. Below are the steps involved in producing walling stone.
- Step 1
We excavate from deep within the quarry. Prioritizing quality from the start.
- Step 2
Our Team carefully pick the natural stone blocks for processing in order to optimize quality and yield for each specific masonry product whether it be walling stone, Paving stones, Fireplaces, Sills, Heads, or one of the other numerous masonry projects we undertake.
- Step 3
Once the blocks are checked and we are happy they are of the quality required, they are individually placed on one of our many specialist saws in our yard at Southowram, Halifax for primary sawing This process is where the quarried sandstone block is cut into slabs. Once the stone slabs have been produced, they are, once again, checked and passed through for the next stage of production whether it be for natural stone walling, Paving or specific masonry projects.
- Step 4
The quality slabs are then passed through for secondary sawing which is where they are cut into manageable pieces before being processed for the final product. In order to complete this process we have a team of experienced sawmen operating our various specialist saws so the slabs are always very carefully placed on the correct saw to achieve the exact high quality finish our customers expect.
- Step 5
At Whitehall Stone Sales Ltd we also have a large number of skilled stone dressers who individually square off the walling stone and create the required finish by hand. There are many stone face finishes and sizes to walling stone including pitched faced, punched faced, tumbled, textured, split/squared to name but a few. Not only can our dressers prepare the face of the stone to the required finish but, during the final preparation stages, the walling can be darkened either slightly or heavily depending on the customers’ requirements.
- Step 6
Once the production process is complete the walling stone is safely stacked on heavy duty 6metre pallets, shrink wrapped and stored for either collection or delivery.
